Golden Rams Scorch the Nets in Blowout Victory

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team was red-hot from the field on Wednesday evening defeating Western Tech 103-73 to clinch a berth in the Region XIII tournament February 26-28.

The Golden Rams will enter the tournament as the #4 seed from the Southern Division and will face the #1 seed from the Northern Division.

With one regular season game left the matchups have not yet been determined.

Western Tech took their only lead at 3-2 before the Golden Rams rattled off 11 straight points to take a 13-3 lead after two layups from Harley Shear.

After a Western Tech field goal, back-to-back three-pointers from Collin Price and Edvonte Copeland extended the lead to 19-5.

Leading 21-6, the Golden Rams allowed a quick eight points from Western Tech and the lead was trimmed to 21-14 with 10:34 to play in the half.

Falmata Tula extended the lead to 37-22, but a 13-5 run by the Cavaliers cut the deficit to just seven with 2:49 left.

The Golden Rams closed out the half on a 13-6 run of their own to lead 55-41 at the break.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 61.8 percent in the opening half, but Western Tech countered with 57.1 percent shooting.  The teams combined to make 15 of 28 shots from beyond the arc.

Price knocked down consecutive three-pointers to open the second half and build a 61-43 lead.

Two free throws from Mamadou Ngom, two layups from Copeland, and another Shear layup extended the lead to 73-48 with 13:53 to play and the Cavaliers wouldn't threaten again the rest of the way as the lead reached as many as 34 points.

The Golden Rams shot even better in the second half at 64.3 percent in finishing with a season-high 62.9 percent for the game including 14 of 26 from the three-point line.

Seven players reached double figures in scoring led by 20 apiece from Copeland and Price.

Tyler Matsen came off the bench to score 12 points on 4 of 5 from the three-point line.

Ngom, Shear, Mahad Haji, and Caleb Garrigan each finished with ten points.

Copeland also chipped in a season-high seven assists.

The Golden Rams improve to 15-11 overall, 7-6 in the MCAC Southern Division.

They will wrap up the regular season on Satuday, February 20 with a trip to Austin, MN to face Riverland at 1:00pm.
