The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team fell 62-59 to Rochester Community and Technical College on Wednesday evening in Rochester.
Inbounding from under their own basket with 1.5 seconds remaining, guard Mahad Haji got an open look from the three-point line in front of the Golden Ram bench but the shot wouldn't fall.
The Golden Rams got out to a slow start turning the ball over on four of their first six possessions in falling behind 16-3.
Trailing 18-5, Anoka-Ramsey used a 13-0 run over a four and a half minute span to tie the score at 18 apiece.
Rochester built the lead back up to eight points, but a Tyler Matsen three-pointer from the wing trimmed the deficit to five.
The Golden Rams would trail 33-26 at halftime after shooting just 31 percent overall and 3 of 11 from the three-point line.
A layup from Brandon Hixson, followed by a Collin Price free throw and a layup from Edvonte Copeland would pull Anoka-Ramsey within two, 33-31 to open the second half.
Rochester would use a 7-0 run to go ahead by nine with 14:22 left to play, but the Golden Rams would fight back once again.
Copeland knocked down a three-pointer, Falmata Tula connected on a layup, and Haji would score another three during a 8-1 run to pull back within two with 11:25 left.
Trailing by six with six minutes remaining, Copeland would get three straight layups to tie the score at 56 apiece.
Both teams would trade baskets on their next possessions, and Hixson would make one of two free throws to give Anoka-Ramsey their first lead of the game 61-60 with a minute remaining.
Rochester scored in the paint on their ensuing possession to retake the lead, but Anoka-Ramsey would turn the ball over with 26 seconds left.
After two Rochester free throws, the Golden Rams would get two looks at threes from Copeland but both were off the mark, with the final attempt landing out of bounds off a Rochester player setting up the final 1.5 seconds.
Anoka-Ramsey shot 46 percent in the second half to finish at 39 percent overall.
Copeland scored all 18 of his points in the second half while also contributing four steals.
Hixson finished with 12 points on 4 of 7 shooting and 4 of 5 from the free throw line to go with eight rebounds.
Haji finished with nine points.
Mamadou Ngom pulled in ten rebounds.
The Golden Rams fall to 14-10 overall, 6-5 in the MCAC.
Anoka-Ramsey will host Ridgewater College on Saturday, February 13 at 3:00pm.
The Anoka-Ramsey Athletics Inaugural Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at halftime of the game.
