Dave DeWitt, the winningest coach in Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball history, has retired as head coach. In retirement, DeWitt will volunteer on the Men's Basketball staff at North Central University in Minneapolis, where his son Dan is the head coach.
Anoka-Ramsey Athletic Director Dave Alto - "Coach D is going to be missed greatly. He has been instrumental in continuing the tradition of excellence of Golden Rams women's basketball. He was an excellent teacher of the game, and more importantly a greater teacher of life. I wish to thank him for his many years of service and wish him nothing but the best while he continues his coaching career with his eldest son Dan at North Central."
DeWitt spent at total of 16 years at Anoka-Ramsey, coaching 14 seasons overall. The Golden Rams did not field a team in his first season, and the 2020-2021 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over 14 seasons, DeWitt's teams went 315-103 for a .753 winning percentage. His first full team won the 2006-2007 National Championship, as did the 2010-2011 team.
Anoka-Ramsey had ten seasons with 20 wins or more under DeWitt, with only one sub-.500 record. Anoka-Ramsey appeared in the Region Championship game 11 times, winning eight of those appearances and advancing to the National Tournament.
DeWitt developed 12 All-Americans, three Honorable Mention All-Americans, 35 All-Region players, 37 All-State players, 37 All-Division players, and 13 Honorable Mention All-Division players.
Over his 14 seasons, numerous players received scholarship opportunities at 4-year colleges and universities including four NCAA Division I players.
"You're only as good as the players in your program, and I was fortunate to have really good players and assistant coaches," said DeWitt, "and when I was hired Anoka-Ramsey was already a top-notch program. My goal was simply to not screw it up."
Anoka-Ramsey will begin practice for the 2021-2022 season on October 1st.
