The Anoka-Ramsey Softball team opened MCAC Southern Division play in the Austin Dome this past weekend and came out on top with a perfect 4-0 result. In the process, the Golden Rams have run their winning streak to 15 games.
Friday night, April 7, saw the Golden Rams win game one of the doubleheader over Riverland CC 7-0. Sophomore Molly Gross continued her dominance in the circle by pitching her second consecutive no-hitter while striking out 14 batters. The team jumped out to an early 4-run lead in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back. Maddie Bottineau led the club with three hits including a double while Emma Bright, Olivia Thomas, and Maggie Kohl had two hits a-piece. Thomas, along with Alyssa Meadows each had two RBI's.
The nightcap of the double header saw Lyla Galli get the start and she didn't disappoint picking up her 7th win of the season. Galli shut out Blue Devils 5-0 while striking out six and walking none. Offensively, there wasn't a lot happening for the Golden Rams offense. Bottineau had a huge 2-run HR in the 1st inning with Galli and Bright each contributing two hits a-piece.
Saturday, April 8, ARCC played Rochester with the Golden Rams coming to play with a dominating 15-0 5-inning win along with a 18-0 5-inning win over the Yellowjackets in the second game of the twin bill.
The Golden Rams came to play while pounding out 30 hits, playing stellar defense including a couple of Sportscenter Top 10 plays by Hailey Babcock at shortstop and Bottineau at 2nd Base, along with Gross and Bottineau pitching shut outs. "I was very impressed with how our young ladies came to play", said Head Coach Dave Alto. "We were focused, and it most certainly showed in our play. It was great to see EVERYONE contribute to the sweep."
The Golden Rams are now 21-9 and 4-0 (T-1st Place) in the MCAC Southern Division after the first week of play. The team has a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 12 at Northwestern of St. Paul and their 1st home doubleheader on Saturday, April 15, against MN West Lady Jays at 12pm and 2 pm. All home games are played on the Cambridge campus.
