Anoka-Ramsey traveled to Worthington yesterday to play MN West and came away from the doubleheader taking two wins. The Golden Rams won a tightly contested first game 2-1 and then broke open a close second game for a 9-0, 6-inning win.
The opening game of the doubleheader turned into a pitcher's duel. ARCC struggled to get its offense going. The team scored a single run in the top of the third inning on a double and stolen base by Emma Bright putting her on third base, followed by a perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Kenna Packard.
The Golden Rams would score a single run again in the top of the fourth inning on a double and an error on a hit by Sunny Strait. These two runs would be all the team could muster, but good enough for the win.
Madison Segler led the team with two hits. Strait picked up her 9th consecutive win in the circle striking out 11, walking zero, and only allowing four hits.
The nightcap of the doubleheader saw ARCC strike fast in the top of the 1st inning. A double by Bright, single by Segler, and another single by Maddie Bottineau would give the Golden Rams a 2-0 lead.
The game stayed this way until the top of the 5th inning when the team scored four runs on three hits, two walks, and an error. The big hit of the inning was a double by Segler.
The game would then reach the 8-run rule in the 6th inning when ARCC scored three runs with two outs. Packard had a double to left, followed by a base hit by Bottineau again. Then Strait lasered her nation leading 14th HR to left field clearing the bases.
This game the Golden Rams pounded out 12 hits led by Bottineau with three and Bright, Segler, Strait, and Christina Meyer all with two hits apiece.
Bottineau was magical on the rubber pitching the shut-out. She struck-out 8, walked zero, and only gave up two hits.
The Golden Rams have won six straight, and 12 of their last 13 games
ARCC is now 13-4 (7-1, 1st in the MCAC South) on the season. Next up for the Golden Rams is another MCAC Southern Division foe, the M-State Spartans up in Fergus Falls on Saturday, May 1.
