On Wednesday, April 14, the Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams opened their 2021 MCAC Southern Division season at home against #9 nationally ranked St. Cloud Tech Cyclones and came away with a doubleheader split.
The Golden Rams took the 1st game of the doubleheader 4-1 behind the masterful pitching of Sunny Strait.
Strait struck-out eight while only allowing four hits over the seven innings of work. This was Strait's sixth consecutive win and seventh overall for the season. Strait was also huge at the plate going 2-3 while hitting her nation leading 9th home run of the season.
Madison Segler also had two hits which included a double and Emma Bright had two more stolen bases to go along with her two hits as well. Bright leads the nation in stolen bases as well.
Anoka-Ramsey came out swinging in game two scoring one run off three 1st inning hits by Bright, Mckenna Packard, and Strait, but an inning ending line drive double play stopped the inning in its tracks.
The Golden Rams trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 3rd, when the team got an inside the park home run by the ever speedy Bright and a towering home run off the scoreboard by Packard.
The Cyclones in the top of the 4th inning took advantage of three walks, an error, and two extra base hits to put up a crooked number of five runs for the inning. Unfortunately, Anoka-Ramsey was unable to recover from this big inning.
Two Golden Rams stood-out at the plate in game two. Packard had her best game of the season going 4-4 with a home run and 3 RBI's and Bright collected three more hits to go along with a home run and three more stolen bases. Maddie Bottineau getting her 1st start of the season picked up the loss.
The Golden Rams are now 7-4 (1-1) on the season. The team is back in action at home on Tuesday, April 20 against the Blue Jays from Minnesota West.
