Men's Basketball holds off DCTC, stays unbeaten

The Anoka-Ramsey Men's Basketball team ran their unbeaten start to the season to 8-0 after holding off Dakota County Tech in a hard-fought 88-83 win Tuesday night.

The Golden Rams led by as many as 22 in the first half and held a 48-29 halftime lead.

DCTC opened the second half on a 10-2 run to trim the deficit to 50-39, and pulled within 54-49 before a 10-2 Golden Ram run extended the lead to 64-51 with about ten minutes left.

Anoka-Ramsey eventually took a 16 point lead after back-to-back threes from Akeem Nelson.  Some late turnovers contributed to DCTC pulling within 82-76 with just over a minute left.  But timely layups and free throws held off the Blue Knight rally.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 41.6 percent but got 12 more field goal attempts than DCTC thanks to 17 offensive rebounds to just nine for DCTC.

Nelson finished with 17 points off the bench making 5 of 7 from 3.

Preston Thielke scored 16 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists.

Stewart Jones 13 points, all in the first half.  Andrew Chisely recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey will travel to MN North Vermilion on Friday, and MN North Mesabi Range on Saturday.
