Golden Rams Stay Unbeaten

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team played their first two road games of the season last weekend and came away with two victories to remain unbeaten at 7-0 this season.

On Friday night, the Golden Rams traveled to Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College and fought off a pesky Thunder team to win 83-74.

The Golden Rams struggled shooting from the field connecting on a season-low 34.7 percent and making only 5 of 20 from beyond the arc.

Fond du Lac shot 41.9 percent and committed 23 turnovers.

The difference came at the free throw line where Anoka-Ramsey made 26 of 35 attempts while Fond du Lac hit just 17 of 29.

Edvonte Copeland scored 23 points going 8 of 13 from the free throw line and pulled in six rebounds.

Kevin Schramm recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Mamadou Ngom scored 15 points to go with five steals.

Ramose Riddley chipped in 12 points off the bench making 5 of 7 from the field.

Anoka-Ramsey then traveled to Central Lakes College on Saturday to face an always-tough Raider squad.

The Golden Rams built a 32-25 halftime lead by holding Central Lakes to just 25 percent shooting in the half.  However, CLC had nine offensive rebounds and outscored the Golden Rams 6-0 from the free throw line.

Anoka-Ramsey jumped out of the gate quick to start the second half and built a 49-36 lead with 14:30 left in the game.

But Central Lakes would chip away at the deficit eventually pulling within 57-56 with 7:40 left.

A Copeland layup and a free throw from Chris Morgan pushed the lead back to four.

Leading 66-62 with 3:20 left, Copeland would come up with an offensive rebound and find Malik Williams for a three to push the lead to seven.

Copeland then followed with a layup to lead 71-62.  Following a Central Lakes free throw Williams would once again connect from deep and give Anoka-Ramsey a 74-63 cushion with 1:48 to play and the Golden Rams held on from there.

Copeland scored 19 points to lead all scorers.

Ngom and Schramm each scored 16 points.

Anoka-Ramsey will return home on Friday, December 9th for a 7:45pm tip with Mesabi Range, then face Vermilion at home at 2:00pm Saturday, December 10th.
