Men's Basketball Knocks Off #2 Rochester

Men's Basketball Knocks Off #2 Rochester

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team broke out of an offensive slump in a big way by knocking off #2 ranked Rochester Community and Technical College 89-87 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams had struggled shooting from the field in recent games, but connected on 33 of 64 shots (51.6 percent) including 12 of 24 from the three-point line.

Anoka-Ramsey led 8-7 with 17:35 to play in the first half before embarking on a 11-0 run to go ahead 19-7 after a jumper from Josh Jackson.

Layups from Jackson, Caleb Garrigan, and Falmata Tula would push the lead to 25-11 with 11:09 left before the break.

Rochester started to find a groove going on a 17-7 run to pull within 32-28 with 4:25 left.

Anoka-Ramsey would push the lead back to ten, 43-33 with 1:26 to play, but a 7-0 spurt to end the half by Rochester would put the Golden Rams up 43-40 at the break.

Both teams would battle back-and-forth throughout the second half, with neither team able to take more than a four point lead until a three-pointer from Mahad Haji put the Golden Rams up 81-76 with 3:35 left.

After a Rochester free throw, Edvonte Copeland would connect from long-range to push the lead to 84-77.

A Rochester three cut the deficit the 84-80, but a Collin Price transition layup pushed the lead back to 86-80.

The Golden Rams would take a 88-81 lead on a layup from Tula with 1:08 to play setting up a dramatic finish.

Two Rochester free throws, followed by a Golden Ram turnover and a Yellowjacket layup cut the deficit to 88-85.

Haji would miss on a three-point attempt and Rochester would score another layup to pull within 88-87.

Price would miss the front end of a one-and-one but Rochester would get called for travelling with 0.9 left.

Copeland was fouled before the inbounds and made the first free throw before intentionally missing the second as Rochester had no timeouts remaining and could only muster a 90 foot heave that fell short.

The Golden Rams were led by Price with 21 points on 4 of 6 from the three-point line.

Haji scored 17 points connecting on 5 of 9 from downtown.

Copeland finished with 16 points and Tula chipped in with 12.

The Golden Rams improve to 10-7 on the season, 2-2 in the MCAC.

Anoka-Ramsey travels to Ridgewater on Wednesday for an 8pm tip.
