Offense Leads the Way in Wins Over Rainy River

Game 1: Anoka-Ramsey 15 - Rainy River 13

Anoka-Ramsey Community College snatched the lead late in the game in a 15-13 victory over Rainy River Community College on Saturday. The game was tied at 12 with Anoka-Ramsey batting in the top of the eighth when they scored on a stolen base during Brandon Watkins's at bat. Then Watkins singled, driving in one.

Despite falling down by five runs in the sixth inning, Rainy River tried to fight back. They scored seven runs in the failed comeback on a grand slam by John Michael Gonzales Jr. in the sixth, a single by John Hudson in the sixth, a single by Brandon Renick in the seventh, and a error in the eighth.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rainy River tied things up at 12, when they scored one run when Renick singled.

Anoka-Ramsey put up four runs in the sixth inning.  The Golden Rams' big bats were led by Benji Bruce, Nate Tillman, and Kyler Stuart, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Rainy River scored five runs in the sixth inning. Rainy River's offense in the inning was led by Gonzales Jr. and Hudson, all driving in runs in the inning.

Dan Foley was credited with the victory for the Golden Rams. The lefty went two innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out five and walking zero. Derek Heldman threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

John Michael Gonzalez Jr. took the loss for Rainy River. The pitcher surrendered three runs on three hits over two innings, striking out three.

Esteban Ruelas started the game for Rainy River. The hurler went four innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits and striking out three.  Brayden Buttweiler started the game for Anoka-Ramsey. Buttweiler allowed eight hits and ten runs over five and a third innings, striking out eight

Anoka-Ramsey smacked one home run on the day, when Tillman launched a blast over the fence in the third inning.

The Golden Rams saw the ball well today, racking up 21 hits in the game. Stuart, Bruce, Elliott Barton, Tillman, Patrick PerreaultZach Ziesmer, and Watkins all managed multiple hits for Anoka-Ramsey. Stuart led the Golden Rams with four hits in four at bats.

 

Game 2: Anoka-Ramsey 10 - Rainy River 5

Tyler Traphagen would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Saturday, driving in four on three hits to lead Anoka-Ramsey Community College past Rainy River Community College 10-5 on Saturday. Traphagen drove in runs on a single in the second and a home run in the seventh.

In the second inning, Anoka-Ramsey got their offense started they scored two runs on Traphagen's single.

Anoka-Ramsey put up three runs in the sixth inning, when Benji Bruce had an RBI home run to lead the run scoring.

Nate Tillman was credited with the victory for the Golden Rams. The righty went seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out six.

Orlando Rodriguez took the loss for Rainy River. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on ten hits over six innings, striking out six.

Anoka-Ramsey tallied three home runs on the day. Dan Foley went for the long ball in the fourth inning. Traphagen had a four bagger in the seventh inning. Bruce had a long ball in the sixth inning.

Anoka-Ramsey racked up 13 hits in the game. Traphagen, Foley, and Bruce all had multiple hits for the Golden Rams. Foley and Traphagen each collected three hits to lead the squad.

Anoka-Ramsey's offensive day was one for the ages, as they compiled a total of 34 hits between the two games.
